What is the advantage [or major disadvantage] of allowing folks to “follow” you on Facebook when the connection is not strong enough to be a friend?
From a marketing perspective, posts on your personal profile usually get more reach than a corresponding post on your business page.
Many people use their personal profile (or a second “personal” profile) in place of a business page because of this organic reach advantage.
You can’t pay to promote from your personal profile.
You have a 5000 person friend limit, while a Page has no limit
The “Follow” feature allows people to choose to see your public posts, and as long as you post publicly, I’ve never heard of a limit to the number of followers you can have.
Keep in mind, when you post, you can designate who sees it, so public, just friends, specific friends, etc. Not everything you post has to be for your “friends”.
